Uses and synthesis of Clotrimazole powder

Clotrimazole white powder or colorless crystalline powder. Melting point 147-149℃. Soluble in anhydrous ethanol, acetone, chloroform, almost insoluble in water. Odorless, tasteless and rapidly decomposes in an acid solution. Clotrimazole powder is a broad-spectrum antifungal drug, which has good antibacterial effect on a variety of fungi, especially Candida albicans. The mechanism of Clotrimazole's action is to inhibit the synthesis of fungal cell membrane and affect its metabolic process.

Production methodprocess of Clotrimazole powder

Clotrimazole powder is prepared by esterification, addition, hydrolysis, chlorination and condensation of o-chlorobenzoic acid. It can also be chlorinated from o-chlorotoluene to o-chlorotrichlorotoluene, then condensed with benzene in the presence of aluminum trichloride to form diphenyl - (2-chlorophenyl) chloromethane, and finally condensed with imidazole to get Clotrimazole.
