Uses and synthesis of Cimetidine powder

Cimetidine, also known as cimetidine, tagamine, cimetidine, is an H2 receptor antagonist that can significantly inhibit the secretion of basal gastric acid during the day and night, as well as the secretion of gastric acid induced by food, histamine, pentagastrin, caffeine, and insulin. Cimetidine powder is white or white crystalline powder. Almost odorless, bitter taste. The melting point is 140-146℃. Soluble in methanol, soluble in ethanol, slightly soluble in isopropyl alcohol, slightly soluble in water, easily soluble in dilute hydrochloric acid. The saturated solution of Cimetidine is weakly alkaline.

Applications/Functions of Cimetidine powder

1. Histamine H2 receptor antagonist. Cimetidine powder can inhibit the gastric acid secretion induced by histamine stimulation, the gastric acid secretion induced by food, pentaglacin, caffeine and insulin, and the basic gastric acid secretion. Cimetidine is used for gastric and duodenal ulcers, peptic esophagitis, and Chou-Aids syndrome.
2. Cimetidine is used to treat peptic ulcers

Production methodprocess of Cimetidine powder

The intermediate (I) and 2-aminoethylmercaptol hydrochloride react in the presence of hydrogen bromide and then neutralize with potassium carbonate to obtain the compound (II). Then it reacts with the corresponding thiourea to produce Cimetidine powder.
