Product details
Hemin powder is a metal porphyrin compound with relatively simple structure, formed by the complexation of a molecule of ferrous and protoporphyrin. It is a group substitute of natural heme in vitro, and its chemical properties are similar to those of heme. Then Hemin (also known as iron porphyrin, heme chloride, hemin) was extracted from pig and cow blood and recognized by modern medicine as a biological iron source with high absorption rate and good effect in preventing and treating iron deficiency anemia. It has no iron odor and does not irritate the gastrointestinal tract. Hemin is the preferred raw material for the production of iron-supplementing foods, pharmaceuticals, health care products and cosmetics.
The main medical use of heme is in the treatment of acute intermittent porphyria (AIP) and some other forms of acute hepatic porphyria. These diseases are caused by defects in certain enzymes in the body's heme production pathway, which leads to the accumulation of toxic precursors in the body, causing neurologic, abdominal, and other symptoms.
Applications and Functions of Hemin powder
Mechanism of action of Hemin powder
Exogenously administered heme inhibits the activity of aminolevulinic acid synthase (ALA synthase) in the liver. ALA synthase is the first rate-limiting enzyme in the porphyrin synthesis pathway. By inhibiting this enzyme, heme reduces the production of toxic porphyrin precursors, thereby alleviating the symptoms of acute porphyria attacks.
