Uses and synthesis of Rifampicin powder

Rifampicin powder is a broad-spectrum antibiotic drug belonging to the rifamycin family. It has a strong antibacterial effect on tuberculosis bacilli and is also effective against gram-positive or Gram-negative bacteria and viruses. Rifampicin is a red or dark red crystalline powder that is insoluble in water. Generally taken orally in capsules or tablets, Rifampicin works synergistically with other anti-TB drugs and delays the development of drug-resistant strains.

Applications/Functions of Rifampicin powder

1. Broad-spectrum antibiotics. Rifampicin powder has antibacterial or bactericidal effect on mycobacterium tuberculosis, gram-positive bacteria and some Gram-cloudy bacteria. It is mainly used for the infection of drug-resistant tuberculosis and drug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, and has certain curative effect on leprosy.
2. Rifampicin inhibits DNA recombination and protein insertion into mature virus particles. The initiation of RNA synthesis is inhibited by binding β-subunits of RNA polymerase.
3. Rifampicin is a broad spectrum antibiotic, which has strong bactericidal effect on Bacillus divergences and gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

Physicochemical Property of Rifampicin powder

Orange-red flake crystal or brick red crystal powder. Decomposition at 183-188℃. Soluble in chloroform and dimethyl sulfoxide, soluble in ethyl acetate, methanol and tetrahydrofuran, soluble in water (pH < 6), propanol and carbon tetrachloride.

Rifamycin SV was oxidized to rifamycin S, then formylated with formaldehyde and tert-butylamine to form 3-formyltert-butylamine rifamycin S, then reduced with vitamin C and condensed with 1-methyl-4-aminopiperazine to prepare Rifampicin powder.
